From The Model Couple (1977) by William Klein (music by Michel Colombier). It’s a French-Swiss film that follows the events of a national experiment in which a couple representing the typical French pair are recruited by the Ministry of the Future to live in a “happiness capsule,” where they are subjected to constant surveillance as test subjects in order to create “a new city for the new man.”
Director William Klein was one of the most influential street photographers of the postwar era. He was from Manhattan but spent most of his life in Paris, initially studying painting with Cubist visionary Fernand Léger while there under the GI Bill. His photographs often look almost accidental and chaotic and feel remarkably modern today. He pretty much transformed fashion photography while working for Vogue in the ‘50s and ‘60s.
