Bolinas, 1976

Winter ➡️ Summer, circa 1976 in Bolinas. Photographs by Ilka Hartmann from The Town That Fought to Save Itself, about how the Bolinas townsfolk fought all kinds of government opposition to build an “ecologically viable community.” Great story (and town), though as one Amazon reviewer notes, “in the process of saving itself, Bolinas set the stage for its destruction as the ‘outlaw area’ it once was. Building permits on the coastal plateau are essentially impossible to obtain, and the law of supply and demand… you get the picture.”
