Wilfried Satty’s Stone Garden poster for East Totem West. Was just reading about him in Alan Bisbort’s 1996 book about them: “Sätty was an anomaly in the innocent Day-Glo world of budding hippiedom. A large, slouching man, Sätty was a brooding presence at any happy gathering, and his art evokes the darker surrealism of fellow German Max Ernst rather than the peace signs of the popular Peter Max. Sätty had reasons aplenty for his grim nature. As a boy in Bremen, he was witness to the wholesale devastation of his town. During one particularly destructive Allied bombing in World War II, he acquired a sliver of metal shrapnel in his head.”
