My last post on the Brotherhood of the Spirit commune in Western Massachusetts received some pretty eye-opening comments from people who were there. Here are some scans from Free Spirit Press magazine circa 1972. The self-proclaimed “most successful commune in the United States” printed 50,000 copies of this issue, which featured full-page ads from companies like Erewhon when it was a Boston-based organic food innovator (way before influencers) and Colombo Yogurt when they were targeting the hippie demographic.
