California Boy and Purple Peace Girl

California Boy and purple peace girl blacklight posters (1971), produced by AA Sales — the company that ripped off Crumb’s “Keep on Truckin’” motif the worst and was actually sued by Crumb, who ended up receiving a whopping $750 settlement which AA then disputed! It ended up in federal court with AA saying Crumb had lost all claims to his drawing because he’d never included the little C in a circle copyright symbol along with his name and date. The judge sided with AA and “Keep on Truckin’” was public domain for a few years until the Ninth Circuit Court reversed the decision in 1977. #undergroundcomixschool
